While approximately ninety percent of Minnesota psychiatrists self identify as White, remarkably, every mental health facility located in North Minneapolis has multiple BIPOC practitioners and options for culturally specific care.
MENTAL HEALTH
Almost every portion of the North Minneapolis neighborhoods have a percentage of residents higher than the national average who experience frequent mental health distress.
CURRENT ASTHMA
Due to air pollution from the surrounding industrial plants and manufacturers, North contains some of the highest percentages of residents with Asthma.
SHOTS FIRED
By the end of 2020, the North Minneapolis neighborhoods had the greatest amount of documented shots fired in Minneapolis. This was a combination of gun fatalities, confirmed shootings, and suspected gun shots. Since then, residents and organizations in North have prioritized the mediation of violence by forming groups that use
holistic, life-affirming practices to diffuse conflict.
